  17. <p>     "It's pretty sad when a person has to lose weight to play
  18. Babe Ruth," says John Goodman, the hefty actor best known as
  19. Roseanne Barr's huggable TV husband. Goodman worked off 60 lbs.,
  20. spent five months learning to bat and throw left-handed, and
  21. then sat through as many as two hours of makeup a day to
  22. portray the legendary slugger during a 20-year period. The Babe,
  23. due next year, is the actor's first dramatic starring film
  24. role, and word from the set of the just wrapped movie was that
  25. Goodman's transformation into the Bambino was positively
  26. Ruthian. "The Babe lived life full out," says Goodman.
  27. "Everything he did was big."
